Transition Stories drew up a heat zoning map for the municipality of Zelzate: a crucial step towards a more efficient and sustainable heat policy. This map, based on a combination of public data and local information such as planned area developments, formed the basis for a thorough stakeholder dialogue.
Through this dialogue, the heat zoning findings were translated into concrete actions and anchored in the municipal heat policy. Moreover, the links with the policies of other key actors, such as the province and regional intercommunal Veneco, were carefully considered.
In a second phase of the assignment, we provided support to the municipality of Zelzate and the province of East Flanders in the development of a municipal information and position paper regarding the heat network project ‘Coupling residual heat ArcelorMittal Gent to a few consumers towards Zelzate’.
