News update: Transition Stories develops support programme for renovation of apartment buildings with city of Leuven

By 2 June 2022June 11th, 2024No Comments
The city of Leuven has appointed Transition Stories to conduct market research to determine the support needs of property managers and homeowners’ associations (VME) for renovating apartment buildings. Based on this research, a programme will be developed to increase and accelerate the renovation rate.

Increasing the Renovation Rate of Apartment Buildings

The City of Leuven has an energy desk where citizens can inquire about energy premiums, energy suppliers, and advice on installing solar panels. However, the existing support services are insufficiently tailored to the complexity of apartment buildings. Given that approximately half of the housing in Leuven consists of apartment buildings, many of which are older and likely in need of thorough renovation, it is crucial to increase and accelerate the renovation rate of these buildings due to their significant energy-saving potential.

What are we going to do?

Transition Stories is conducting market research to capture the needs of property managers (syndici) and homeowners’ associations (VME). Through surveys and a focus group comprising experts, we will develop a tailored support program for syndici and VMEs. The project aims to:

  • Understand the renovation needs of apartment buildings in Leuven.
  • Propose a support program that the city can further develop to meet these needs.

The project began in March 2022 and will run for six months.
