The city of Sint-Niklaas has appointed Transition Stories to work with schools of Sint-Niklaas to map out a route to become climate neutral by 2050. In this way, the city wants to continue the work of the energy coaches. The climate coaches 2.0 will focus even more on cooperation and exchange with and between the many schools. In this way, the city and the schools will strengthen each other to achieve the ambitious climate goals.
Climate plan for Sint-Niklaas Schools
Since 2015, energy coaches from the city of Sint-Niklaas have been supporting schools in the transition to sustainable energy consumption. A few years ago, an educational component was added, which is very successful. Yet there is a need to embed the operation more structurally.
The six pillars of the climate plan are used as a basis. From there, proposals are formulated around which the climate coaches can take action. These actions are primarily aimed at the school infrastructure, such as energy sharing, mobility plan, climate playground, etc. Educational actions are linked to these later.
In this way, a concrete climate action plan is developed where schools can sign up to priority actions according to their needs and capacity. The aim of this project is to draw up a sustainable cooperation strategy in which the city of Sint-Niklaas and the schools of Sint-Niklaas create a joint climate-neutral future.
What are we going to do?
First, we will identify which actions are priorities and feasible through a survey and interviews. The approach will also be determined together with schools and school boards. The result of this phase is to develop a supported and realistic action plan that fits within the climate vision of the city of Sint-Niklaas. In doing so, we will pay attention to the broader framework in which the climate coaches work. We will do this on the one hand by deploying our expertise in the field of energy transition and process guidance, and on the other hand by linking a financing strategy to the action plan. The project started in April/May 2022 and the first phase runs until the end of the year. action plan. The project started in April/May 2022 and the first phase will run until the end of the year.
