The city of Antwerp wants an additional 50 ha of solar panels in Greater Antwerp by 2024 and has set up a climate table to make this happen. The focus was on large roofs (>1000m2).
First, projects and owners with clear potential and openness to installing a new solar installation were sought. Here, the project team provided economic-financial, technical or legal support, depending on the needs of the specific project. This resulted in exemplary projects that serve as inspiration for others.
The second pillar was the elaboration of a more structural support mechanism for parties considering a (large) PV development that could still use a push. Finally, the third pillar consisted of adjustments to the concession regulations of the Port of Antwerp to create a strong incentive for panels on the very large roofs of sheds and factory buildings. Transition Stories focused on the search for exemplary projects, their supervision and the adjustments to the concession regulations.
